Terms of use
The agreement between you and us when you use Varnook. Plain English where we can manage it.
Last updated 4 October 2026
1.About these terms
These terms of use (“Terms”) govern your use of Varnook at varnook.com. Varnook is operated by Soulstack (“we”, “us”, “our”). Contact address for legal correspondence: Office One, 1 Coldbath Square, Farringdon, London, EC1R 5HL, England.
By creating an account or using Varnook, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
2.The service
Varnook provides self-paced programming lessons with exercises that run in your browser, checks that tell you whether your code works, written hints and an AI hint assistant.
We keep improving Varnook, so courses, features and limits may change. We aim to keep it available and correct, but we cannot promise it will always be free of interruptions or mistakes. Varnook is for learning; do not rely on it, or on code written in it, for anything where an error could cause harm.
3.Your account
- You need to be 13 or older to create an account. If you are under 18, check with a parent or guardian first.
- Give an email address you can use, and keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- An account is for one person. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used yours.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
4.Fair use
Weekly allowances for learning time and AI hints keep Varnook usable and affordable for everyone. When you use Varnook, please do not:
- Get around the allowances, for example with automated scripts or extra accounts.
- Try to make the AI assistant do something other than help with your exercise, such as write unrelated code or reveal how it works.
- Use the code editor or anything else in Varnook to attack, overload or probe our systems or anyone else's.
- Copy or scrape lessons, exercises or solutions in bulk, or access the service other than through the Varnook app.
- Break the law, or infringe anyone else's rights, through Varnook.
5.AI hints
The AI hint assistant is generated by a machine learning model. It is designed to ask questions and point you towards the next step rather than give you the answer, and its replies are checked before you see them, but it can still be wrong or unclear. Treat its replies as suggestions, and check them against the lesson and the tests.
6.Your code and our content
Code you write while completing an exercise is yours. You give us permission to store it and process it only so that we can run the service for you: saving your work, checking it and generating AI hints.
Lessons, exercises, solutions, and the Varnook name and logo belong to Soulstack. They are for your own personal learning. Please do not republish, resell or share them in bulk.
7.Paid plans
Paid plans are not on sale yet. When they are, these terms will apply to them:
- Prices are in pounds sterling and are listed under Pricing. Varnook is not currently registered for UK VAT. No VAT is charged on subscription invoices, and no VAT is reclaimable by VAT-registered customers. We will notify customers if this changes.
- Stripe processes payments. A plan renews at the end of each monthly or yearly period until you cancel it.
- You can cancel at any time from Settings. Cancelling stops future renewals.
- If a renewal payment fails, you keep your paid limits for up to 14 days while the payment is retried. If it still has not gone through, your account moves to the Free plan's limits. Your progress is never deleted because of a failed payment.
- If you think you have been charged in error, email hello@soulstack.co.uk.
- Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights, including rights under consumer protection law.
Your right to cancel
If you buy a paid plan as a consumer, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you the right to cancel within 14 days of the day you subscribe, without giving a reason.
- To cancel, email hello@soulstack.co.uk with a clear statement that you are cancelling, or cancel from the billing portal in Settings.
- Paid limits start as soon as you subscribe. By subscribing, you expressly ask us to start the service straight away, within the 14 days. If you then cancel within that period, you pay for the service provided up to the point you told us you were cancelling, in proportion to the full period, and we refund the rest.
- We refund you within 14 days of the day you tell us you are cancelling, to the payment method you used.
8.Our responsibility to you
Varnook is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data, profit, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, you keep your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other consumer law.
9.Suspending or closing an account
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that puts the service or other people at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to put things right. You can stop using Varnook and delete your account at any time.
10.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Varnook develops. We will change the date at the top, and for a significant change we will tell signed-in learners in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Varnook after that, the new terms apply.
11.Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
12.Contact
If you have any questions about these Terms, contact us at hello@soulstack.co.uk or by post: Soulstack, Office One, 1 Coldbath Square, Farringdon, London, EC1R 5HL, England.
